Seems like a good way of introducing people to a familiar interface, along with getting them a different email address.

First thing first, I’ve got no prior experience at all with the software, the major hurdle was finding out what does what, as the terms used are quite different to those used in other software that I am familiar with. I then had to find out what modules I needed, again, not too obvious at first, but luckily the people over on the Drupal site were very helpful.

I just spent the last few days adding around a thousand terms to the taxonomy, only to find out that it was wasted, and I should have been adding them to custom CCK fields, which was a small irritant. Ah well, that means I have to change all the Views I’d already set up, and find a way to change the custom blocks to take advantage of the new CCK fields, rather than taxonomy.

Hopefully I’ll have the site working in some sort of form within the next few weeks. I don’t plan on theming it yet, just having it working would do for now.

Here’s what it looks like at the moment.

Still a great deal to do as you can see, I’m looking into finding a way to automatically get various RSS feeds posting articles to the homepage, although I’ll have to be careful with how that’s used, I don’t want to steal other sites content.

It looks a hell of a lot better now.

Also need to get started on the Wiki stylesheet, reading up on it now, it looks like it should be relatively easy, but I’m probably just being wildly optimistic.

Also also, having a look at JQuery, trying to teach myself some things to make my site a little more interesting and interactive.

Forums:

• Changed style from default blue to custom grey style.
• Added new forms to user profiles, then edited postbit php template to show those new forms under users names when they post.
• Removed navbar and made new one using horizontal list, editted stylesheet and header php template to include the new navbar.
• Added some new icons, with more to come.
• Changed image library from GD to Imagemagick.
• Added custom BB code (Youtube integration)
• Created custom VBA frontpage modules.

Wiki:

• Enabled short URL’s hack by changing some php and .htaccess file.
• Changed front page from “main page” to “love wiki” for the sake of SEO.
• Disabled anonymous editing.

There are, of course, more changes to come.

Website layout is, I think, finally finished, can’t upload it as my laptop can’t connect to the Livebox so it’ll have to wait untill early January but it’s looking great. Working on other things too, the SS2 deck is getting on, some of the objects are built, just need to lay everything out and start working on getting the lighting right, and then start texturing if I’ve got the time.

Working on getting the layout to this blog and the forum to match the site, but that won’t be for a while yet.

Not much else to report elsewise, life is good, getting on with stuff, missing Mimi a lot and my uncle is arriving tommorow.

Need to find some new music.

Oh, and Storm of Zehir is shitloads of fun.

Anyway, not much to report, getting on with everything, slowly. Some images from my System Shock 2 deck will emerge in the next couple of weeks, and I’m going to give some serious thought about giving everything a proper design look, which means restructuring the few things I’ve already done on the website along with getting the forums and blog to match the main site.
